California Poppy Print
Hand-carved reduction linocut printed on an etching press during my residency with Ocelote Press in Oaxaca, Mexico in July 2025.
I had never seen California poppies before moving to the state for my ex-husband's job. Within months, he filed for divorce, stranding me thousands of miles from my friends and family. I would later learn that this sort of isolation is textbook domestic abuse.
As I work to rebuild a life and community, I try to appreciate what is special about living in this place. California poppies grow with abandon in the backyard of my San Francisco rental, and when I was far from them in Oaxaca, they came to mind as a symbol of what is now home.
Unframed.
